LEMONADE WHIZZ KIDS DONATE TO THE COTTON TREE

Last week, when the UK was recording the highest temperatures ever, two girls came up with a brilliant idea. Evi Selden, 8, and Phoebe Winfield, 10, made some ice-cold lemonade and set up a stall with this notice:

LEMONADE      ❤️

I CUP £1.50

2 CUPS £2.50

3 CUPS £3

4 CUPS £4.50

WE ARE DONATING ALL THE MONEY TO A CHARITY… SHE HELPS REFUGEES.

The lucky charity was the Cotton Tree Trust! 😊

In no time at all, exhausted passers-by gathered round the stall for a delicious cooling drink. Many came back for another cup, and then another. It was exactly what was needed on the hottest day since records began. There was even a delivery service to local people who had Covid.

Well done, Evi and Phoebe!! As well as refreshing local people during an emergency heatwave, they donated £65 to the Cotton Tree, which will go towards food and other essentials for asylum seekers living on next to nothing.

We are so grateful!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Evi and Phoebe go to local schools, where they have been learning about people who are forced to leave their countries because of war and other threats to their lives. At Evi’s school there is a new student who recently fled Ukraine. Both girls know about toilet twinning, a fantastic scheme that saves lives and protects health by providing safe water and sanitation.

It is wonderful that two girls living safely in London decided to help people who face poverty and other serious challenges. Raising £65 for asylum seekers and refugees – not to mention helping overheated locals – is a huge achievement. Thank you so much, Evi and Phoebe!!

I asked them for the lemonade recipe, of course. Here it is:

INGREDIENTS (quantities to taste):

Lots of lemons

Lots of caster sugar

Sparkling water

Put the sugar in a saucepan with some water and boil until it becomes a syrup. Squeeze the lemons while the sugar is coming to the boil. Add the lemon juice to the syrup and then the sparkling water. Enjoy! 😊
