Job Description

The Cotton Tree Trust (registered charity number 1172069) was founded in October 2016 with the aim of providing free holistic support to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. It has three complementary branches: Legal, Heal & Grow, and Education & Training. We see clients individually by appointment only at our King’s Cross office, where we have private meeting rooms, and in workshops (storytelling, poetry etc.) in North London. Staff work together to provide an integrated experience in which clients can enjoy a supportive community, deliver their stories clearly and with conviction, and prepare for productive lives in the UK.

At present our legal branch offers our service users time and expertise to gather their information and tell their stories coherently in order to prepare clear and accurate statements. We wish to move to the next stage by applying for OISC registration at Level 2 so that we can offer immigration advice.

We now have a vacancy for a solicitor, barrister or legal advisor with at least OISC Level 2 authorisation, to join our small legal and casework team on a part-time basis, initially 0.4, with the possibility of expansion. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed legal professional or immigration caseworker to help develop a strong, ethical, free legal service in a supportive and collaborative environment.
