If I get the right to remain, what then?

My education was disrupted – can I ever go back?

How will I re-build my life in this country?

Your story has a future as well as a past and a present, and we hope it will be one in which you gain fulfilment and security through what you do. For this, education and training may have an important part to play.

The Cotton Tree is a community of learning, formal and informal. In our workshops, members share knowledge and skills. You learn from us and we learn from you.

Some are keen to return to formal education, and we are here to guide them. We work with Reconnect Online, partnered with UCL, which runs a programme for refugees and asylum seekers called Reconnect to Education: Preparation for Higher Education.

Through our services and network, we help our members on a case-by-case basis as they move towards a settled life in the UK.

We also run a successful outreach programme for schools, in which Michael Mugishangyezi tells his story with passion and verve to fascinated pupils and teachers.
